About Me

My name is Bethany Grace Parry, or Coffeegirl. I am a 21 year-old student attending Missouri State University. I am working on my undergraduate degree in Public Relations with a minor in Spanish.
I transferred to Missouri State from Southwest Baptist University last fall, and I have not looked back. Springfield has welcomed me in an incredible way, and I love getting to know the community.

Growing up my mother owned a herb shop, coffee shop, and cafe in Cape Girardeau, MO, so working at The Coffee Ethic in downtown Springfield just made sense. I absolutely adore my job from making the coffee to conversing with all the customers. I also enjoy educating others on coffee ethical practices and quality coffee brewing.

My passion beyond my job and my education lies in culture and fighting poverty around the world. I hope one day to work in an international non-profit organization like Coffee Kids, World Vision, or Rainbow Network. I believe I am on a good start because this past summer I interned with Ozarks Food Harvest on the Development Team and did some PR writing for AIDS Project of the Ozarks this past Fall. I often like to refer to "The Platinum Rule", coined by Milton Bennett: "Do unto others as they would have done unto themselves". Being culturally aware in today's society is very important to me.

I am also involved on campus as well. I am a Vice President of Missouri State's Chapter of PRSSA. I am also an active member of Lambda Pi Eta, Communication Honor Society, and the Event Coordinator chair. Lastly, I am participating in the Distinction in Public Affairs Project. My group is researching ways to better integrate International Students with native students on campus in efforts to create a more diverse community.

My faith is also something that is important to me. Growing up, my father was a pastor of a local church, and now, as an adult, I make loving people the center of my Christian walk. No other doctrine or rules matter to me as long as I continue to love others, and I love learning about other religions. Although politics do not interest me much, I think it is best to be an informed voter that does not stick to party lines and votes for the person best for the job.

Lastly, I am also an avid blogger. I have two blogs: www.coffeeculturecommunity.blogspot.com and www.thedefinitionofgrace.blogspot.com.
